Up and Left us... suddenly... not expected

How to explain a Dilly

These are the Dillard’s... Sally and Dilly... (Scott I think Scott Dillard)

They own a curiosity shop – ( *[link] )

-( * [link] * )-
-( * [link] * )-

In the last 4 years or so I have come to know Dilly quite well... he sold me my beloved Pakistan drum and more to the point... all my major drums.

He had a drum circle every 3 wed of each month... about 7 regular drummers... all of them bad except me... it was sacred though just to be with Dilly and Sally in their back yard with a fire or in the back of the store with candles and incense burning.

Dilly also was Hindu Priest... and performed marriages and rites of passage

Dilly also cut Hair. He cut mine (and now I am on a quest to choose a new hairdresser and if you all know me you much know it’s a major thing with Me. who gets to fool with my hair)

Dilly was a mentor...

About 3 weeks ago we had a wonderful celebration in the Dillard’s back yard. The celebration of their Son’s David’s Death... 1 year before of a drug overdose at the age of 33

(I’ve seen the needle and the damage done – kids ... just sad)

It’s been a hard year on all of us... to see the special Dilly and Sally so Sad

Dilly and Sally made this such a celebration of the LIFE of their son... not his DEATH

It’ was pretty unique

This is the last picture of Sally and Dillard together

It reminds me why it’s important to take pictures... so I can tell important stories

Two days later he will be in ICU... with breathing problems... then staff infection. Then simply dead

There was a memorial service... (He is cremated and in a box next to is son ... in the his Curiosity Store at the moment)

Pictures of his life... some poems read... his high school teacher telling us Dilly Stories

And then a tape.

A tape of Dilly telling us his view on life .. And some things they he had learned along the way .. And the fact that we are hearing this tape because he is dead .. And he tries to explain what he thinks the afterlife is .. And at the moment I guess he knows ..

-- -- -- -- --

Today .. Dilly’s was open .. (2 weeks since the memorial service) and I so hesitated to go in .. . I know Sally would be there without Dilly .. And I have never ever seen that in the last 4 years I’ve been to that store .. Not one time .. And in fact they had been together for 42 years and rarely separated.

She was sitting behind the cash register alone and stunned

And we hugged and cried ..

And Dilly is simply gone

I bought some incense tabs and some frankincense

I made a down payment on yet another wooden drum .. Bamboo . (A tone box)

And the world turns

And I’m thankful I’m me and that we still have a Curiosity Shop

And that I had a Dilly and a Sally

And I still have a Sally

Sounds like you'll never lose Dilly. He lives in your heart and memories and now he touched those who read this. Remember next year to go out in August and beat that drum to celebrate Tilly's life. Please tell Sally that they are people saying a little prayer to help give her strength to go on. ~blessed be~

I am sorry of the passing.. but he lives in the beats of your drums.. so do not beat a sad rythym, celebrate and make dilly dance, make his soul dance in happiness. I know he'd want it that way.
"And that I had a Dilly and a Sally
And I still have a Sally"

Isn't that always the way. Death is a funny thing... we see it all around us, we know that it happens to EVERY living thing.. but it's still so damn shocking. They say that the difference between people and other animals is that we know we will die someday and they do not. I often think that the real difference is that we know we will die some day and try to avoid it, we deny it, we ignore it, run from it, fear it, etc, etc... and the other animals simply accept it.

Just a thought.

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music.

Reading this has made me almost cry..It is a combination of sadness and otherwise.. I am not sure what the otherwise is o_o ...

Dilly was a great person, I gather from this. I wish that he could have been on this earth longer.

The last few lines out of everything you said was perhaps my favorite..

I apologize for my horrible lack of being able to channel my thoughts and feelings into a comment this time...

I don't care if you don't like hugs. This isn't an actual human contact kind of hug, damnit. It is just all the friendly love of a hug represented by a little icon. You said you needed that in a comment prior to mine, so here is another:
